We are getting ever closer to crowning this year’s March Madness Poetry champion. We’ve now made it through four full rounds, going from 64 authletes to 32, from 32 to 16, from 16 to eight, and now from eight down to our “Final Four.”
I was away from my computer for much of the day today, so the words were revealed to our Round Five poets privately at noon CDT today. For everyone else watching, below are the matchups and words. Unlike the first four rounds, these words were not assigned by me! Rather, these words were first suggested by one of our Round One or Round Two non-winners, then selected from that looooooong list by our Round Three non-winners as some of their favorites, and then specifically chosen from that short list of favorites by each Round Four non-winner to assign to the person who beat them to reach the Final Four. It’s team cruelty!
*ignominious (Buffy Silverman)
vs.
*iridescent (Renee M. LaTulippe)
and
*milksop (Randi Sonenshine)
vs.
*balderdash (Tiffany Strelitz Haber)
Authletes: Poems are due by midnight Central Daylight Time on Thursday night, March 26th (crossing into Friday, March 27th). There is no longer any poem length limit for Round Five. Still note, however, that poems that do not use the assigned word correctly will not be posted; you will need to edit and re-submit to meet that requirement.
The authlete in each matchup who wins 2 out of 3 of the Public Vote, the Authlete Vote, and the Classroom Vote will move on to this year’s Finals!
Enjoy the madness …
