New Poem: Skinny

Skinny
by Ed DeCaria

I
slipped
right
through
a
pavement
crack
while
strolling
down
the
street,

and
landed
in
a
sewer
pipe
that
smells
like
rotting
feet.

It’s
damp
and
dark
so
I’ll
just
park
right
here
and
send
a
tweet:

Shel Silverstein, eat your heart out. :) Love the visual.

      Thanks for the compliment, Melissa!

As Melissa above seemed to think, it’s a visual, but if you continue, I can definitely see a picture book, for chuckling in the best way! I’m glad your madness is almost full!

      Thanks, Linda!

I often think about which poems might make for good PBs, but I admit that it never really occurred to me in this case.

Picturing Shel meeting Edward Gorey and having a blast reading these. Nice work, sir.

A welcome image. I would like to think that kids’ poetry does have a place in the afterlife …

HA! You are so very clever. I agree with Linda – you might have a character here for a PB!

Well if EVERYONE thinks it would be a good picture book … I still probably won’t write it, because I have the attention span of a gnat and I’d be bored by the time I got to page 32. Plus then I might have to give this character a name, and I’m trying to avoid that as a matter of personal style.

Or maybe I should stop being so stubborn and try writing something other than a poem for once in my life. We’ll see!

Thanks. I thought that the visual at the end gave it the right touch …

Let me know when the book is available-I’ll definitely take a few copies!
